Stem Cell Therapy for Autism in Serbia – a review of the treatment plans for Israeli children

Recently, after several months of communication with the company, we received information from Swiss Medica about a number of treatment options for stem cell therapy for autism in Serbia. Finally, we received fixed-price treatment options for children with autism from Israel who will come for treatment at the Belgrade clinic.

In this article, we will detail the treatment plans at Swiss Medica. To compare with other options look at the list of recommended clinics.

The prices and treatment plans quoted in this article were provided for the Israeli crowd only. If you live in other countries, you will need to contact Swiss Medica and get a personalized plan.

It is important to emphasize that this article does not represent a medical recommendation. Consultation with a* doctor is a necessary and integral part of the process.

** It is also important to emphasize that the treatment does not cure autism. Treatment has the potential to enable the learning of communication skills and reduce developmental gaps.

Guest lectures talk about stem cell therapy for autism

You can watch recordings of lectures on our YouTube channel, or join real-time discussions on our Facebook group. We host meetings with a variety of recommended clinic managers and experts in the field. We hosted, for example, clinics from Mexico, a clinic in Poland, and specialists from Israel. The last meeting was with Swiss Medica where our children are treated in Belgrade.

It took us a while to ask them to speak about the treatments in Belgrade.

One reason is that most people who come to us for advice, want to go to the clinic we have chosen for our children. We wanted to give people a chance to learn about more options and decide objectively.

Another significant reason was created following the establishment of our Facebook group. Following our success with stem cells for autism and epilespy, we’ve helped other families get the treatment. In December 2021, with the help of our services, six families arrived for treatment in Belgrade. These and other parents who were there before spoke up in the group. We all realized that each person received a different price for pretty much the same treatment.

Following the discourse created around the topic, we stopped sending new customers. We explained the issue the pricing differences were creating. We requested the clinic find a solution. Our main request was to find a way to be transparent and uniform.

Dr. Vasily, the clinic’s director, approved a special program for the Israeli public. We now felt that the clinic’s representatives: Dr. Alexandra, and Alex Hitch, could be invited to speak. We hosted them on a Zoom broadcast, and explain what is stem cell therapy for autism and their new pricing system.

You are welcome to watch the recording of the broadcast. Please note that prices have been updated since the discussion, following questions raised. I will detail this later in the article. I will also not be held

How does stem cell therapy for autism work?

Stem cell-based therapies began with studies with umbilical cord blood several decades ago. Over the last thirty years, the field has evolved for use in a variety of tissues and different types of cells.

Coincidentally, children with autism who received umbilical cord blood as a treatment for leukemia improved their autism symptoms. Following this discovery, cord blood based clinical studies were opened. Later on, private institutes also tried the treatment of stem cells of various types.

Today such places mainly use mesenchymal stem cells (or MSC) from different sources for a variety of neurological syndromes and other conditions.

In autism, it has been observed that there is an inflammation factor that impairs a variety of abilities. The same inflammation causes a delay in learning communication skills.

It turns out that mesenchymal stem cells are particularly good at balancing the immune system and fighting inflammation. MSC are relatively safe to transplant. They are also relatively easy to produce. As such MSC are good candidates to improve the communication abilities of children with autism.

There is evidence for this in research papers. We also see that, at least among the audience of parents who share their experiences, there are quite a few children who have indeed reached achievements that do not match the pace of development from before treatment. After treatment, the rate of development greatly improved.

It is important to emphasize that this is an experimental medical treatment. There is never 100% success in medicine. There are children who do have a satisfactory response to the treatment. In addition, the approval of the global medical community is still missing. It takes a lot of time and data until the medical community approves such things officially.

Treatment options for autism at Swiss Medica in Belgrade

After several months of negotiations, Swiss Medica informed us about a significant change in the way treatment plans are presented. They also realized that there was a competing clinic in Mexico with market-breaking prices, and that it was worth giving a competing solution. They introduced the new prices in the zoom conversation. (I’m not sure they are competative with Mexico, but it is an imporvement).

The only things we asked for were transparency and uniformity and we got those. (At least for Israeli children with autism.)

The new treatment plans are only for children with autism. For the treatment of other diseases / injuries / syndromes you have to go through the regular registration route. You will receive a customized treatment plan, and probably at a variable price.

Now any Israeli who wants to do stem cell therapy for autsim in Serbia will be able to choose one of three treatment options (which I will mention below). In addition, if we manage to form a group, it is also possible to receive a discount of 3,000 euros per person on the five-day route.

Our service is also customizable for any other patients, depending on your needs: consultation, Hebrew to English translations and more.

It is possible to reduce the cost of the five day program to 11000€. To do this, we must organize in groups of at least 20 patients over one month.

To make it easier for parents to join a group, I created a registration form.

After registering on the form, I will contact you from time to time to update you on what is happening on the list, so that you can decide when to get treatment according to it.

Sign up with the form, if you are interested in waiting and joining the parent group:

  • A dose of intravenous macrophages. Produced from the child’s blood sample, taken on the first day.
  • A dose of inhaled macrophages.

  • The program costs € 17,000. It also includes accommodation, meals and transportation from the airport and back. The program also includes a physical examination for both caregivers, and physical therapy. If necessary, the caregiver will also receive PRP (a type of stem cell therapy).

From the sixth day of treatment, the family is transferred to a hotel stay at no extra charge. The family will be transported for treatments to the clinic and back. Three meals a day will be provided by the clinic.

Alternatively, you can split the treatment: perform five days according to the plan, and return to perform the rest of the treatment days at a later date.

Let’s compare the three treatment programs

I summarized the information I received about the plans in the table below, hoping it would be clearer

Stem cell therapy for autism - comparison table

Please note that if you watched the video, the prices are a little different. I received an update after the conference call.

All programs include injections of up to three million MSCs per Kilogram of weight intravenously. In five and eight-day programs, two such IV transfusions are given.

In the eight-day program, the clinic prepares a dose of macrophages from the child’s blood sample that was taken on the first day. The macrophages are given on the last day of the treatment plan.

All programs include speech therapy sessions according to the number of program days(3/5/8). Because these sessions do not take place on days when the child has received a sedation the clinic recommends staying at the clinic for extra days to take advantage of all the sessions.

If you would like help choosing a treatment plan, you can contact us for a counseling session. However, this topic should be brought up with the doctors.

In conclusion

We continue our efforts to influence and expand the range of treatments available in Israel. At the moment, the only possible treatment in the country for autism is the clinical study in Sheba based on autologous umbilical cord blood.

If you are currently pregnant, preserve the cord blood!

. If you know women before childbirth, explain to them how important it is to preserve cord blood. It’s impossible to predict if the cord blood will be used, but nothing can be done about it in retrospect if you haven’t preserved it.

When we started our search for treatment, we had no choice but to go abroad. Luckily, the treatment saved Dolev’s life when his epileptic seizures stopped. His communication and developmental abilities have also improved greatly in the last three years.

We can not guarantee that the treatment will do the same for another child. However, because of the amazing results for us, and for other children we have sent, we will continue to promote the field and help those who want to get there.

More and more parents are reporting on our Facebook group. A pleasant experience at the clinic in Belgrade, and good results. Some are reporting about other clinics as well

We hope if you choose this path, for great results for you too.

Please mention “Hagai Reiner” recommended the treatment to help us build up the community.
